Work History:
My dad owned a corner shop, so I grew up working in that every weekend – which taught me to manage money and how to help people find what they needed.
After I graduated from my BSc I worked in a health centre (something similar to boots) and had some odd jobs working in retail. I also worked in a hospital for a while, which meant helping people with mobility difficulties get to appointments. I also got to talk to people and find out about their lived, and talk through things like how nervous they were or what they hoped to be able to do when they got better.
I came to the UK to do my postgraduate training (Masters degree and therapy training), and worked in the NHS in a mental health service for 3 years while doing that.
After I qualified as a psychologist I worked in the NHS for few years, then took a part time job as a lecturer. Eventually I worked full time as a lecturer, and worked my way up to be a head of department (*the boss :-p).

My team and I teach psychology, research, and how to understand people. As a team we teach people so they can get a degree, then go further to get a Masters degree, and also a Phd (doctorate). I am most proud of our psychology mental health clinic, where my team supports people to do well in their studies by understanding themselves (and the team are awesome).
I want to inspire people to follow their dreams, because we are more capable of things than we think.

My Typical Day:
My typical day start with checking emails at home before going into the office. I meet with other lecturers to update ourselves on projects. Lunch is usually with some of the staff so we can relax and not talk about work. In the afternoon I meet with students for tutorials and classes, and help people with projects and assignments. I finish around 4:30, and spend my evening with friends either going out or eating in.
-
What I'd do with the prize money:
I would bring students to come to university for the day, learning about psychology, doing some psychology experiments, and meeting with our degree students and staff.
